Here is the beginnings of my doll project I'm working on. I've got the face painted and I'm beginning on sewing the outfit. Her eyes were removeable, so I popped them out after running the doll under hot water to soften the plastic. I repainted them and used a clear acrylic gel to gloss them. I also removed the dolls hair by running it under hot water to soften the glue holding the hair intact, then cut the hair down as short as possible, and scraped it out from the inside with a pair of scissors. It's coming along well, and the pants and shirt should be complete soon!
JCHS Logo - Rough Sketches PT. 2
Here are more sketches for the design. After my conference with Mrs. Fiedler, we've changed plans from a stencils to free-hand. I'm a lot more comfortable with this! Stencils would be a long process to make, but freehanding with the help of some tape would be simpler for me. The area was a lot bigger than I thought it was, so my sketches drastically changed!
JCHS Logo Stencils - Sketch
I plan to create some art outside the school as per request, so here is my initial planning of the stencil for the JCHS logo! I will break them down into three layers, one for each colors. Having them in squares that are able to be lined up with one another would be easiest. I'm going to the HS tomorrow to get a look of the area, so I will add more to the sketch as I get more information!
"Unnerved" Marker & Pencil Drawing
My goal with this drawing was to create a sense of unease that you just can't place. Yes, clowns are a cliche, but the added affect of the figure in the background and the mannequin I think add to the feeling of imminent danger. I had a lot of fun with this, seeing as markers and pencils are some of my favorite mediums to work this! The paper is 7x10, and I managed to cover the entire thing with the drawing!
Mister Le'Squeak - Gouache Painting
For my 3rd project, I decided to continue a previous painting with a sequel! Last year I painted Madame Ewe, a sheep woman, and now I have created Mister Le'Squeak, a rat! Like Madame Ewe, he represents the hivemind mentality and blind following in our world. He works everyday to receive cheese, and his suit represents the repetitive nature of office jobs. I had a lot of fun painting him and I like how toxic and funky the background looks. I tried to make him reminiscent of the style I painted Madame Ewe in, and I think it was successful. They really go together well!
Paper Doll - Cont. - Background
I took the suggestion of my Mrs. Fiedler to create an environment for Yeth! I decided to have the go to the park and have a picnic. Maybe they're waiting on their human friends?
Paper Doll From Outer Space
This is Yesh! They're an intergalactic fashion icon just trying to fit in with the humans. Sadly, all the catalogues they used to fit in are from the 70's! Oh, well it's retro! I made them with a stiff cardboard and acrylic paints, while their clothes are a cardstock. I decided on a cool color palette with blues and greens, and a spunky pink wig to make them stand out. I'm so happy with how they turned out, and they've become a character of mine! The gradients I got with the acrylics were smooth and well-blended, and I'm overall very happy with how this turned out.
The Constitution - Completion
The completed version of my first project is finally here! I had forgot to post it last week, but it had been done for a few days! I am very happy with how it turned out, and the clay was very fun to work with. This piece if about social injustice, and how the weak hold power simply because of money. I incorporated many symbols of minorities in the taller figure, such as the skin color and rainbow. There were no issues with baking, and the paint job is very clean. I changed the paper from being clay to actua paper early on, because I ended up agreeing wit Mrs. Fiedler that it would be too weak. I also removed the chains, because they made it looked too busy.
The Constitution - Progress
I have been very excited while making this piece. I'm pretty pleased with how well the smaller figure matches the drawing, and I think that the face is really expressive. I decided to stray away from the chains on the wrist, because they seemed way too crowded with the paper. My clay is kind of hard to work with, but it only takes around 15 minutes to fully bake, It all stayed in tact and did not crack, so that was a plus!
The Constitution
Woohoo! Senior year! Here is my sketch for my very first project to start off the year. I'm very excited for my first piece to be something so meaningful. I have chosen to do a sculpture from Sculpey clay to create a piece speaking on the current state of the world before the 2020 election. I aim to have a piece that has a clear, important message that can also be take multiple ways. I will continue working on it from home, I am excited to see how it turns out.
