I was so excited to create this mask. I finished it all in one day, as soon as I started! My mask is inspired by the Woyo african tribe and their wide variety of masks. The colors in sections and the nose were especially created with their masks in mind.
Teacup Project
After many days of being overloaded with work and my internet not allowing anything to be uploaded, here are my teacups and plates! My desk has been covered in paint for days, but I had so much fun painting these both and making them. They went through alot of revision to look like the sketch, but I think I did a pretty good job!
Teacup Project - W.I.P Pt. 1
My first teacup and plate are ready to be painted! I really like the texture I was able to get on the leaves and handle. Adding color will help bring out more of the details, since they get kind of lost in the bland white.
Slab Project - Candy Stix
Here is my final project for the semester! I've always wanted to do a retro-ish candy sticks box and a slab project was the perfect opportunity! I tried to make them seem reminiscent of 90's makeup packaging, with tons of hearts and designs. I used tinfoil inside of them so that it kept it's shape while it was I baked it, and it worked out pretty well, but it misshaped just a little. I still think it turned out pretty good!
Coil Pot - Bee Hive
This turned out way bigger than I expected! I met the height requirement of 8 inches, it actually was an inch taller (not including the bee!) It's also pretty heavy, since each coil is almost an inch thick. It's very sturdy and I think it looks really good on my shelf! I was glad that nothing cracked or broke besides the wings of the bee, but I honestly expected that. I should have just made them unattached to begin with, but I still think the bee looks just as good. I'm also really happy with the shape, it resembles a real beehive shape-wise, but the cartoony beehive in regards to the rings. All in all, I'm really happy with how this turned out and it's definitely a shelf favorite!
Pinch Pot Snail
Here is the pinch pot snail before it's brought to life with color! The top of the mushroom, the shell, and the back of the head are all made out of pinch pots. The shell goes onto the base to make it look like a snail, and the mushroom goes inside! I was very excited to make a snail, because they're one of my favorite animals.I'm going to use his shell to hold my rings!
Pinch Pot Project Progress (Oh my!)
Here's the progress of my little slimy fellow. All ready to be finished! He was pretty fun to sculpt, but it was a little difficult getting his head to not slump over. Luckily, he turned out fine and he's cute!
Clay Making
These slides will explain to you how to make your own clay from scratch. It is not as hard as it may seem, but it's some work!
